Song of the time until my blog gets fixed

Thursday, July 17th, 2008 by Dawn Summers

By the way, I’ve gotten a new ipod and ditched all my old music…starting over as it were. So far I’ve got a bunch of Dandy Warhols from Dawn 2 and Alceste for my birthday, the Pretenders, The Donnas and Miley Cyrus because well, I’m still me. Any other suggestions for my new, improved ipod…which also doesn’t have a name yet…It’s sleek and black and plays video, as well as music. Leave your suggestions in the comment section if and when it starts working again. Enjoy the weekend.

Original Dreamgirls

Technology is so crazy. A friend of mine from college posted this clip from the Tony awards on his facebook page. It is almost thirty years old. It stars Jennifer Holliday as Effie (the role for which Jennifer Hudson won the Oscar two years ago). This was my favorite song in the movie, I think the scene here is even better though. And dyam, check out stick thin Loretta Divine, who is most known as “the fat one” in Waiting to Exhale.

R. Kelly might be trapped in the closet…but not in a jail cell

Friday, June 13th, 2008 by Dawn Summers

CHICAGO - R. Kelly was acquitted of all charges Friday after less than a day of deliberations in his child pornography trial, ending a six-year ordeal for the R&B superstar.

Kelly dabbed his face with a handkerchief and hugged each of his four attorneys after the verdict — not guilty on all 14 counts — was read. The Grammy award-winning singer had faced 15 years in prison if convicted.

All I can say is wow. Wow. WOW! THERE WAS VIDEO!

What ever happened to Pink?

Monday, April 14th, 2008 by Dawn Summers

So, the one consistently good thing these days has been my workouts. I am regularly doing more than three miles and can almost bench press 100 pounds! (60 is almost a hundred…right? Thought so.) Here’s a song that came up on random on my ipod a few days ago and I’ve been listening to it nonstop. The words, are sad, but the beat is rockin’. With an apostrophe!

What happened to the days when
Life was simple (So Simple)
Everyone knows my name
I haven’t changed, I’m the same girl
I was from the start
Everything’s rearranged, you came
And changed it and gave me a broken heart
You don’t wanna work it out, no
You wanna take the easy route

You throw your hands up and walk away
When times get hard you always walk away
You get mad and say you’re leavin’
Why is it so hard for you to talk to me?
When it’s so easy for you to walk away

I was never one of those nostalgic for the eighties people but…

How much did Prince rock?

I never meant 2 cause u any sorrow
I never meant 2 cause u any pain
I only wanted 2 one time see u laughing
I only wanted 2 see u laughing in the purple rain

Purple rain purple rain
Purple rain purple rain
Purple rain purple rain

I never wanted 2 be your weekend lover
I only wanted 2 be some kind of friend
Baby I would never steal u from another
Its such a shame our friendship had 2 end
(chorus)

Honey I know, I know, I know times have changed
Its time we all reach out 4 something new
That means u 2

Heeeey

Karol stole my song of the day!

Turnabout being fair play and all, I’m stealing hers.

I know its been a while sweetheart, we hardly talk
I was doing my thang
I know I was foul baby, aye baby lately, u been all on my brain
And if somebody woulda told me a month ago, frontin’ on
Yo I wouldn’t wanna know
If somebody woulda told me a year ago it’d go get this difficult

The video is not at all what I thought it’d be, though I guess it’s keeping with the song’s theme that when you know it’s over, there’s no point in talking things through. Like slowing down when you spot the flashing lights of the cop pulling you over for speeding. Too. Late.

Song of the Day

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008 by Dawn Summers

But goodbye’s too good a word
So I’ll just say fare thee well
I ain’t sayin’ you treated me unkind
You could have done better but I don’t mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don’t think twice, it’s all right
