They're kinda depressing, but good. He also wrote "Brazil", a novel about two lovers in Brazil, which has some magical realism and I really like. Never read his poetry. And yeah, Upton Sinclair wrote the Jungle. Also depressing, but in a different way. Never read anything by Updike before (though I have his Rabbit novels sitting in my amazon "save for later" cart section). But I really enjoyed the selections I read last night from the book. He has it split up into sonnets, poems, etc, and also has this terrific section entitled "Seven Odes to Natural Processes"...including "rot" and other weird stuff (wish I had the book with me at work to tell you more).
