Why is my recruiter- for the job I have been DOING for the last THREE WEEKS- asking me for references? THE HELL?

They sometimes wait until after you’re hired. It’s strictly a legal issue – so they’re protected in case you bring a machine gun to work and start mowing down your colleagues.
I just had to authorize a background check to continue to contract at a company that I have already contracted at for 5.5 months that did a background check 6.5 months ago.
