    From the article:

“”Teachers should speak good grammar because kids pick up what they hear . . .”

Bwahahahaha. This sentence should be “”Teachers should *use* good grammar because kids pick up what they hear . . .”

One “speaks” a language. One “uses” grammar.

I will say, as a former ESL teacher, that it is sound pedagogical theory to say that kids trying to learn a second language should have native speakers of the target language teaching them.

The proper solution here is to transfer the heavily accented teachers to teach the non-immigrant kids.

As long as a teacher teaching English is able to teach English, I dont care what they sound like. Does this mean a southerner wouldnt be allowed to teach english or a british dude? Seems the focus here is off. And it’s not hard to figure out why. SMH

Unfortunately, the rule seems to conflate accent and grammar. But these teachers were originally hired to teach in Spanish, which I assume means they don’t necessarily have fluency in English. Which the rule seems to be trying to correct. Let’s face it, AZ has really crappy public schools; fact is, the teachers probably can’t teach English.

hahahahaha. I am starting a “New York underground” to smuggle good people out of Arizona.

  6. Smokey Says:

Don’t tell Pearatty that! She’ll take Wygant away!

  7. Dawn Summers Says:

You can come too! Lots of room on the boat!

I’m not sure that boats will make it out of Arizona. They get trapped in man made lakes… :-(
