What Dante said
I walk as quickly as I can through the alley-wide street between the New York City subway and the New Jersey Path train. The one takes me from my apartment in Brooklyn, the other dumps me off at my office building. The escalators from street level to the train snake at least five stories underground. But you can hear the bell on the train signal closing doors, before your foot lands on the platform floor. And so, guided by the sound, you quicken your steps.
Nimbly jump down stairs.
Run.
Your heart races.
Then you spy the silver arch pulling off into the distant tunnel. Your pace slows. You exhale.
There.
That moment.
All hope is gone. Like the left earring I lost yesterday.
:/

another earring? are you cementing puppies and babies into your walls?

Oh, total bummer. I’ve lost tally on the earrings. Do you still have two, one from each set, or are you down to one?
Are you working in Jersey City? What part? I assume downtown. I’m in the armpit, Journal Square.

Down to one, but took it out. I don’t have enough street cred to rock one earring. I’m in Newark. If Journal Square is the armpit, I’m in the crotch.

I knew it was too good to be true. Would’ve said we’d have lunch. Jersey City spinning into a black hole would not be a bad thing.

Heh. We really need to figure out how to get rich off of these black hole creating powers. Why should we not be paid to stay away from high profile events or major cities at the same time?

Noooo! I hate losing earrings. The last one I lost was camping. A bunny probably ate it; you can add that to your evil-animal catalog of stories.

What’s with all the carrots? What do they need good eyesight for anyway? Bunnies, bunnies it must be bunnies!

I’m dismayed that you are in Newark again and still haven’t said hello!!! (OK, not like I’m ever in Newark myself, these days …)
