No. You do not. I do not believe for even half a second that you know one person – much less “a few people” – who voted for Obama in order to end discussions of racism.

I know a few people who voted for Obama for that very reason – “Hey, maybe once we have a black president we can stop talking about race all the time.” Should they be patting themselves on the back then?

And was their vote wasted? It seems the subject is destined to be the topic of national discussion until the 2nd coming.

hahah eric, of course, neither ugarles or I believe that a vote for Obama signals anything about racism. I voted for him and I’m totally racist. The point is that most people who make such claims about “who needs affirmative action anymore, racism is over. we’ve elected a black president” are the very people that way didn’t vote for obama. so why should they get to walk around patting themselves on the back for something they didn’t even help do.

Ugarles, I don’t see where you’re in a position to claim credit for anything. A vote for Obama doesn’t mean the voter isn’t a racist. I just means his racism wasn’t more important than, say, free health care or closing Gitmo.

Eric, that doesn’t make any kind of sense. You can’t get from the quote to your questions while still claiming to speak English.

I don’t imply that at all, Pdov. How you voted says nothing. What you believe that the victory of a guy you voted against means may speak volumes.
