The last poetry Wednesday of the year!
And the crowd goes wild….
So I did a google search of poetry and “new year,” I got a bunch of hits, but I picked this one. I didn’t even have to read it first. It immediately jumped out as the poem for me! Three guesses why, and the first two don’t count! ![]()
Goodbye, 2009, we hardly knew ye.
The Old Year
by John Clare
The Old Year’s gone away
To nothingness and night:
We cannot find him all the day
Nor hear him in the night:
He left no footstep, mark or place
In either shade or sun:
The last year he’d a neighbour’s face,
In this he’s known by none.
All nothing everywhere:
Mists we on mornings see
Have more of substance when they’re here
And more of form than he.
He was a friend by every fire,
In every cot and hall–
A guest to every heart’s desire,
And now he’s nought at all.
Old papers thrown away,
Old garments cast aside,
The talk of yesterday,
Are things identified;
But time once torn away
No voices can recall:
The eve of New Year’s Day
Left the Old Year lost to all.

Yesterday, I saw a man on the stairs,
He was not there again today,
I wish, I wish he’d go away.

Is this a riddle about mirrors on your stairs? Hi, Fisch! Waves!

What the hell? TWO comments? TWO? Go back to work. You are more prolific. #Poutsincornerandsucksthumb

Nice. Maybe he’s a long lost relative and died and owes you some cash. That’d be a good way to ring in the new year.
You guys know what today is right? (I really shouldn’t have to ask….)
Anyway, so this morning I when I woke up I was having a dream that I was living the first season of Beverly Hills 90210, which is awesome except for the fact that I was experiencing from the point of view of Brenda and she sucks.

I thought pre-Dylan Brenda was alright! But you have way better style!
December 30th, 2009 at 11:30 am
Thanks.
Brenda was a pain in the ass from the very beginning. Not like the ultra-cool Kelly Taylor!
December 30th, 2009 at 11:49 am
Hahaha I loved the Brenda/Kelly catfights over Dylan! Who I always thought was heinous looking!
December 30th, 2009 at 12:00 pm
Yeah, nobody on there was really good looking. I mean, if I HAD to pick, it would be Brandon but he was always a little too goody goody for me. And the girls weren’t that pretty either. Donna Martin horrifies me. (Though I should note that I do own a “Donna Martin Graduates” tote bag.)

YES! Tori Spelling looks like somebody ironed her face!

I always thought Jennie Garth was hot. I’m sure many would agree with me.

“Three guesses why…” Um…John “Clare”
What did I win?
And isn’t this supposed to be inane comment Wednesday since Friday is a holiday?
December 30th, 2009 at 5:35 pm
Hahaha I think anytime someone comments “Jennie Garth is hot” it’s clearly an inane comments day, cause I for sure, will never write a post where that would be a…um…nane comment.

Tae– It was supposed to be but nobody wanted to have any fun. Bums.
