Having seen performance footgage of her from some of the UK festivals over the summer, I suspect she is one of the few pop singers who is actually better live than on the radio/ipod. While I find the music tolerable (defintely not my typical listen), her show itself was actually entertaining.

As for why Dawn Summers doesn’t like it, my guess is that (at least in the live stuff I’ve seen) she uses a real backing band with an actual guitarist, bassist and drummer (rather than, say, electronic backing tracks — cf. Miley Cyrus). She’s laying pop vocal/piano tracks over what’s comparatively hard rock backing music (which is probably why I tolerate it compared to most pop and given the demographics of people who listen to guitar music, probably explains the white thing too). And as we all know, Dawn Summers likes her rock soft and hates the guitar in her pop music.

I don’t know if it’s a white people thing because I’m white and don’t get it.

Maybe it’s not an either or thing but rather you have to be white + young + gay to understand.

Unrelated, directed to commenter Gib: are you on twitter, and if so did you try to follow me (@dior74)? I just recently tried to approve some requests and twitter ate them…and one of them had a name that started out like yours…anyhoo if that was you, please retry bc twitter messed up, not me. (Okay, maybe there’s a 10% chance that it was user error but either way I meant to approve not deny.)

Oh, I agree with you. Her songs are horrendous. However, you could say the same of ninety percent of the performers in the Top 40 format today.

The funny thing is that the few times I’ve heard her sing show tunes or standards she seemed pretty talented. I don’t think it’s a Britney Spears problem, i.e. she simply can’t sing.

It’s this gay, dance/house/techno crap that’s part of her persona which is the real problem. Anyone who’s recording that stuff is bound to sound horrible because it’s the nature of the genre, which is unlistenable.
