Yeah, because Huntsman had this enormously good chance of being nominated in 2012. Besides, he can always do the job for two years, then quit and run for president with newly minted foreign policy experience.

I don’t say crazy things like “I’m not worried about the 2012 presidential election. I think President Obama wins and he wins big. Unless he dies in office and then sympathy pushes Hillary across that finish line by a hair” because they are jinxy. And I believe in jinx. The only way republicans take back the white house will be in 2016 and it will have to be a guy/gal that can prove that he worked well with PrezO, Huntsman best do this job and do it well for seven years.

I think it’s still a jinx if you put it in quotes.

Sure, if you would say something in quotes it would count. But I “don’t say” such crazy things.

I suspect the entire lay of the election land in 2012 and, depending on how that goes, 2016 is going to be dependent on inflation. It’s coming, given the way the government has been spending. If it happens before 2012 but far enough into his term he can’t plausibly blame Bush, then he’s a goner.
You’re probably a bit young to remember the late ’70s and early ’80s. Having your wages go up by 10% while everything you buy is going up by 12% is enough to give you a surely disposition.

Don’t call me surely.
