I can dodge bullets, baby…for now

I accepted a job today. It was supposed to start Monday, but I told them I would be away until Monday…so they let me start Tuesday. Then I told them I have a dentist’s appointment in two weeks at two p.m. and asked if that was okay. Having gotten the okay on that, I then went on to explain that I had two weddings in the Spring that I needed to attend. They were fine with that. The knot in my stomach was growing bigger and heavier. Dammit. And then they ran the “conflicts check” I made it all the way to question #9 out of #10. “Do you personally know anyone who worked below Canal street on September 11, 2001. If yes, please explain.”
I guess the case has something to do with the World Trade Center recovery or some tort action about breathing death fumes, but my answer was most definitely yes. Not only do I personally know someone who worked below Canal Street on September 11, 2001, that person was me!
I was conflicted out!!!!
No starting Tuesday for me!!!!
I was soooo happy. Like way the reverse of what an unemployed person should feel about losing employment. But happy I was. She apologized for not noticing my First LLP notation and said she’d be in touch. I shook her hand vigorously and told her to definitely do that. Until then, I’m free.
Hmm..now maybe I should figure out how to become a plaintiff in that Downtown death fumes case…
