Heh. Actually, ADN is part of the whole thing. It’s owned by McClatchy. McClatchy owns multiple other papers that have backed Obama. Incidentally, ADN also endorsed Kerry back in 2004. Considering Alaska went to Bush, it doesn’t really seem to be in tune with Alaskans, does it?
As far as Benson’s comment, most newspapers are owned by conglomerates. I happen to work for the internet arm of one of those conglomerates, Advance Publications. Most of our papers get the same news from the same places – there’s not much in the way of independent news anymore. Even some of our local stuff is farmed. However, I guarantee you that our editors are working independently – it would make my life a lot easier if they weren’t (note: easier, not appropriate).
Conglomerates tend to buy up like-minded publications. Heck, look where McClatchy’s newspapers are located: http://www.mcclatchy.com/102/story/354.html
Of course a lot of them (if not all) endorse Obama.
I don’t think that means the editors opinions are any less credible.
