Olympics
*I think I would be more into saber/fencing if it really was to the death…although the fact that the U.S. has a black guy (I think, anyway, hard to tell through the helmet) and a guy from Brooklyn is making me watch. Blech, just watched France take the gold from the U.S.
* Men’s field hockey. Dude. Grow some balls and play soccer or strap on some ice skates like real men.
*Whoa…women’s handball is not at all what I was expecting.
*Is horse racing an Olympic sport?
*I wonder if there’s trash talking between athletes in beach volleyball versus regular volleyball or track cycling versus outdoor cycling.
*The U.S. has a non-Misty May/Kerri Walsh women’s beach volleyball team? Why?
*I am closer to 38 than 19. When the hell did that happen? Cautionary tale for those of you planning to turn 25 for five or six years. (Umm…Dawn how is this related to the Olympics? Well, I’m glad you asked anonymous reader…see the beach volleyball match I am watching features the youngest beach volleyball player who is 19 and the oldest beach volleyball player, who is 38.)

I caught a bit of the women’s handball the other day and was thinking “what the hell is this?” Guess it’s some football/soccer hybrid. Wikipedia indicates it’s an ancient game.
As for equestrian events, no horse racing although some of the events are timed (best time, fewest faults win).

Yeah, the question came to me while I was watching the horse jumping…are all horse jumpers picture models of the aryan nation?

I guess we can add fencing to the list of things black people suck at (poker, swimming, staying out of prison, fencing). That dude got housed. On the other hand, the dude from Jamaica in the 100m dash was just siiiiiiick.

Keeth Smart, the black Sabre fencer on this year’s team, was ranked #1 in the world in 2003. His sister, Erinn, is a foil fencer and also won team silver at this year’s Olympics. Both of them were trained by Peter Westbrook, a 5 time Olympian and Bronze medal winner (Individual Sabre), who is also black. Peter was chosen to carry the U.S. Flag at the 2002 closing Olympic ceremonies. Both Peter and Keeth have been national and world champions multiple times.
Black people still suck at that other stuff though.

A brother tying to cut someone? Now THAT’s an Olympic sport!
