Philly Philly
So, last year, Karol and I were coming back from AC, when her friend Sam suddenly said “we should go to Philly for cheesesteaks!” We didn’t do it, but to this day, I think it would have been a totally funny story if we had. Just random poker-induced insanity.
And so, while not quite as spontaneous as that, KJ and I (thanks to the largesse of the her awesome Asian Jewness) will be heading down to Philly for the Mets game on Saturday.
We’re only in town for the afternoon, so we need suggestions on the very bestest place to get the absolute best Philly Cheesesteak (um…no one tell KJ, though, he seems to think we’re looking for the very best Philly cheesecake and I hate to disappoint him.)
Leave your suggestions in the comment section!
Let’s Go METS!

Saturday? Try the Jewish neighborhood. Because you’ve never had cheesesteak until you’ve had it on Matzoh.
Without cheese.

Cheesecake…no, no. I meant, obviously, Cheesesteak. Philly Cheesesteak.

Pat’s or Geno’s in Little Italy are the popular favorites. Any time of day or night. They are across the street from each other and not too far a drive from the stadium. I’ll leave the directions to Google.

Pat’s and Geno’s are landmark steak stands, and they are pretty good. There are probably other shops that are as good or better, but would be completely hard to find. Plus, it’ll probably be easier to find the ballpark from the aforementioned places.

I have a friend named Sam? That isn’t Fish’s cousin?

You idiots. Unless you are looking for a reason to go to Philadelphia, you don’t have to go to Philly for cheesesteaks. Atlantic City is also famous for cheesesteaks. Go to White House Sub Shop on Arctic & Mississippi, a few blocks up from Boardwalk Hall.

Ugarles can’t read.
There is a reason to go to Phila. Mets / Phillies.
Well, that’s reason enough for Her Dawnness.

Oh…. I thought you wanted suggestions as to where the Mets could go.

Geno’s? Really?! Tastes like cardboard- they got famous and started phoning it in, producing thousands of steaks a day. Try Rick’s Steaks in Reading Terminal Market at 11th and Arch- the pizza steak is transcendent. =) Once you get inside the Market, just follow the neon lights- you can’t miss it.

I comment one paragraph at a time.
Enjoy your cheesesteaks in Philly! I’ve never been to Pat’s or Geno’s, but I agree with that the cheesesteaks in the Reading Terminal Market are fantastic.
