HAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAH
Drobbski and his wife went to Australia for their Winter vacation. I have long been madly in love with all things Australian and but for my terrifyingly crippling fear of flying, I would have gone long ago. Of course, I am determined to go in the year of Dawn, so I asked him to take copious notes and report back about everything he did, so I …umm…well, could just copy their trip. Well, he did as asked, and this particular instruction made me laugh for five minutes.
3 days in Cairns (well, in Port Douglas, an hour closer to the Great Barrier Reef). An absolute must. 4 or 5 days would be great if you like to snorkel or scuba. Less is fine if you don’t. Anything right on the beach in Port Douglas is great. Pay for a trip to the outer portion of the great barrier reef (an hour by high speed boat) and snorkel or scuba for 3 hours if you don’t get seasick. If you do, get on a catamaran to the lower reefs and snorkel or lie on a quiet island beach for 3 hours, then come back (much less choppy). DO NOT PUT YOUR PASSPORT IN YOUR POCKET THEN FORGET ITS THERE AND DO LAUNDRY. Recipe for difficulties with customs/immigration officers in New Zealand.

Yep. And it wasn’t even my passport — it was Mrs. DRobbSki’s!

Australia is a nice country, but I don’t think it is worth enduring 24 hours of flying. I expected the country to be like England only with sun. I was disappointed to find that the country is like going to California. Sidney is LA. Melbourne is San Francisco. And the Great Barrier reef is just another Caribbean Island.
I liked Australia, but I did not find the country unique enough to ever go back there again.

Definately spend time in the Red Centre - there are tons of camping trips available that are tied to admission to Uluru National Park (Ayer’s Rock). I spent three days on a tour out there, sleeping under the stars - you could lay there at night and see dozens of shooting stars. You could see the Milky Way galaxy for crab’s sake.
I spent 2 months in Australia a couple years ago (6 weeks in Sydney working, 2 weeks traveling the country) and would give anything to go back. Of course, I’m not a big city girl (no small town bumpkin either, but I’ve never been to NY or LA). I think it’s well worth the trip.

Hmm, Dawn sleeping out under the stars? I just don’t see it…

Nobody has noted what the country is most famous for! Really hot, large breasted, horny women who are hot for American men!! So, why is it you want to go?

I also have always wanted to go to Australia. And I’ve got some free time these days . . .
Maybe Mr. Pearatty can take us on his boat.
