Here’s a good freaking question:
The only other thing I learned for sure in this episode is that I really don’t understand time travel. Why is it that sometimes Hiro can squint and actually physically disappear, and then other times he can talk to his past self? If so, wouldn’t that phone conversation throw a kink into the whole space-time continuum? And how come sometimes he can stop time at a poker table for like a minute, and other times he’s thrown off by months?

Nobody understands time travel. Especially people who write stories involving time travel.
BTW, if this dampens your enjoyment of Heroes, you really shouldn’t see Deja Vu.

Don’t they address that when his friend suggests he go back and try to save the waitress with the super-memory again, and he says something like, “It won’t work. This power his bigger than me. I can’t save her.” I took that to mean that the power isn’t fully under his control, and he doesn’t fully understand it. I haven’t seen episodes 1-6 yet, though, so sorry if there’s something in them that makes this comment idiotic.
