MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL SAYS U.S. TO BLAME FOR 9/11

MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL SAYS U.S. TO BLAME FOR 9/11

“I think what’s good about the movie is that it deals with 9/11 in such a subtle, open way that I think it allows it to be more complicated than just, ‘Oh, look at these poor New Yorkers and how hard it was for them,’”

The actress made the comments while promoting her film about the aftermath of the terror attacks, during the Tribeca film festival which was created to revitalize downtown New York after the attacks, on NY1, a local New York station.

So how many days before the Gyllenhaal apology and monetary donation to a September 11th charity for children of the victims? 2? 3?

Has it already happened?

oh, maggie. it turns out you don’t just have terrible fashion sense, but terrible common sense, too. what a shame.

  2. Karol Says:

I don’t click your links so is that the extent of her statement? If so, how is that blaming the US?

It was more complicated than just the people that died that day. It changed our foreign policy, our direction as a country, and our relationships with allies and enemies. We’ve fought two wars since then. I’d say that’s pretty complicated.

  3. Alceste Says:

“Because I think America has done reprehensible things and is responsible in some way and so I think the delicacy with which it’s dealt allows that to sort of creep in,” she added.

  4. Karol Says:

    Oh. Apology forthcoming then?

  5. Jessica Says:

    it’s coming soon…

I bet James Spader could get an apology out of her…

  7. Signor_Ferrari Says:

What is so wrong with those comments? So someone is saying America is responsible in “some way”. Big fucking deal.

That is a far cry from saying it is our fault or that we deserved it.

There is no question that there is a causal relationship between America’s actions in the world and 9/11. There is a reason why America was attacked. It doesn’t justify the attacks. It doesn’t make them any less horrific. But attacking the U.S. with a terrorist attack is not the same as launching a terrorist attack on Poland. So can we drop this politically correct point of view where we forget completely that there are reasons why America is hated in the world?

She says America has done “represensible things” in the past. Well, that is true. And it is part of the reason why these people attacked us — and until we fully understand our enemy, we’ll have trouble effectively defeating them.

    signor,

are you kidding me? I hate lots of things, say cats for instance. I have many valid reasons for instance their darting, shifty behavior. However, if I were to light an incendiary device in every home that has a cat — blowing their furry heads miles and miles from the little paws, are they to blame? “In some way” for their deaths and the deaths of their owners, neighbors and children on the premises?

  9. Karol Says:

Signor, when you say ‘America’, you include yourself, right?

  10. Ari Says:

I just wish these ass clowns would put their name on some of a national registry. Next time we’re attacked they can take the brunt of “our reprehensible” payback.

  11. delbrians Says:

I think the reasons stated for the attacks were: we are decadent, we support Israel, and our presence of troops on Muslim soil. While these are hardly attocities on our part, I don’t see what is wrong with taking an introspective look at our country, regardless of 9/11.

I was brought up, along with many of my fellow citizens, to take a look at myself sometimes and evaluate how my actions affect others. I spent many hours in the guidance councelor’s and principal’s offices learning this.

I think this is all that Maggie is asking. She’s too stupid it seems to give the 9/11 blame-game a rest, but her point of view has some merit.

  12. Dawn Summers Says:

But then why say it in the context of a movie about 9/11 rather than say in the context of how crazy it is that she has a “publicist” or has websites dedicated to her? good gravy she pretends to be other people for a living, whydo we care what she thinks?

  13. pearatty Says:

Well, goodness, Dawn, you posted her comment. Why do *you* care what she thinks?

Anyway, she seems pretty stoopid in timing and inablity to explain her statement in an inoffensive way, which is a pity, because I liked her in Secretary.

Finally, I am surprised that you allow cats off so easily. Of course they would be responsible for their owner’s deaths, as that’s all part of their evil plan.

  14. Dawn Summers Says:

i thought no one else believed me!! oh, pearatty you make me so happy.

  15. Signor_Ferrari Says:

You do realize, of course, that good cat owners will have privileged positions after the revolution.

Cat haters, like Dawn, will be … well, it is simply too horrific to describe.
