MY STOMACH HURTS
From laughing so hard:
“We recognize that reform will not happen overnight,” Mr. Bush said in the grand setting of Concert Noble, a 19th century hall. “We must always remind Russia, however, that our alliance stands for a free press, a vital opposition, the sharing of power and the rule of law - and the United States and all European countries should place democratic reform at the heart of their dialogue with Russia.”

I refer you to your own post, two down, when you thought Hillary was “cute” for saying the same thing. George Bush could cure cancer, AIDS and world hunger and you people would still find something to bitch about.

Buddy, Hillary Clinton does not head the party changing House rules on what constitutes a “majority,” paying journalists to hawk government initiatives, while denying White House press access to national columnists, demanding that newspapers refer to social securty privitization as “personal accounts” or risk being frozen out and launching a full scale attack on the legal bar and the judiciary. For starters. Not that we’re Russia by any means, and it’s good that the U.S. is confronting but Russia, but
Tony Soprano can help with Christopher’s intervention but if he says anything about the sanctity of life or being law abiding — you laugh. A lot.

Nice try. But let’s not confuse freedom of the press/freedom of speech with free access to the White House or to the President. The media access game has always been played this way. … it’s just now you have a Republican administration willing to throw its weight around. It’s not the job of any president or politician (regardless of party affiliation) to make life easier for reporters or columnists … unless they feel like it. And let’s not confuse reporters with columnists, either. There are laws and there are “rules.” The administration is well within the law in everything it’s doing. (And it’s not like having access to the press briefings or the administration actually ADDS anything of merit to news stories anyway. Like the administration is going to suddenly develop a case of the “Oh, sure, we want to be completely honest with the press”?)
And let’s especially not lump in lawyer issues with media issues … it won’t do lawyers any good to start associating themselve

… it won’t do lawyers any good to start associating themselves with journalists. And a full scale attack on the judiciary? Okay. If you say so.

Interesting definition of “press conference,” Ken.

When they get caught, Republicans always say that everyone lies and manipulates the media and the governmental process. But it always seems to be the Republicans who get caught. Are they just sloppy?
(And don’t Bill Clinton me, either, Ken — in the end, all he messed with was Lewinsky, not the foundations of democracy.)

Well, to be fair Clinton did kick the entire press corp out of the White House. Of course, they were mean to him and deserved it.

Exactly. You understand me Dawn.
