In case we were wondering if charging the guy with the death penalty would have any deterrent effect.

Perhaps in light of all of the death and destruction this man caused, maybe shitty newspaper writing isn’t the thing I should be complaining about, but He stood by as the gruesome chain-reaction wreck scattered wreckage and bodies over a quarter-mile of track.?

Did they expect him to hold the train on the track? Provide medical assistance? Reverse time? Would it have been better if he ran away screaming as the gruesome chain reaction…?

I agree that this isn’t a suitable case for the death penalty (and I oppose it as you do, Dawn), but Gib is right. If you are the person responsible for enforcing the DP, it is your job to make sure that the guy is crazy and not a sociopath.

Where does it say the DA is seeking the death penalty?

Cooley stressed however that the case were still being evaulated.

He’s filed murder charges with “special circumstances” that make this case eligible to seek the death penalty, but nowhere does anyone say “Oh, yeah, we’re frying this guy, even though we know he’s crazy.”
