His Name Was John?
His Name Was John?
‘Nuff said.
Ok, just kidding, I’m a lawyer who blogs, no way is there ever enough said. ‘Sex and the City’ ended well, I watched, I cried, I suffered through the ‘Curb your Enthusiasm’ that followed.
I faithfully followed ‘Sex and the City’ from the year I got cable (2000) until last night’s finale. Much better fans than I, have written lovely things about the finale and the meaning of the show (here are two right off the blogroll: CandiedGinger and Green Frog!) so I don’t have anything to add on that front.
But as a self-appointed expert on television, I felt that Sex and the City ended exactly the way it should. So many shows twist themselves in unrecognizable, hour-long messes, trying to end in a clever, unexpected way that faithful viewers are left confused and cheated. (Admit it, Elaine and Jerry should have gotten married. Roseanne’s dream sequence was bo-gus and …. dude, how did the X-Files end? oh yeah…fuck you, gimme back the Cigarette Smoking man.)
So few writers can pen an end that rewards the diehards (Buffy and Xena spring to mind,) but the good folks at SATC did what they have successfully done for six years. They did it well and did it right. And did I enjoy it?
Absofuckinglutely.

If Jerry and Elaine got married that would’ve been corny and the Seinfeld show was always opposed to corniness. I love the way that show ended, it was perfect.

I’ve got no feelings about either Seinfeld or Roseanne, but I’m glad you liked our little tribute!

Ok, I finally watched that sappy (I was going to say corny but already used that word twice in this comment section) crapola. This is why I was never a dedicated SATC fan- it’s so predictable and fake. She ends up with Big? How stupid.

Dude, but that’s why it was good — they didn’t try to make it all — surprise Carrie moves to France and shacks up with man of the world Rooskie only to send her friends cards on holidays! bah. or say land everyone in jail.

Dude — The Buffy finale did not impress me. I was quite a fan at the beginning (my first-year officemate got me hooked) but I thought the ending was really a cop out in some sense. But I thought some of the trends of the show had become so dark and depressing that they had almost written themselves into a corner. By contrast to the finale and its lead up, I thought the musical episode was genius, though the theme it worked out was very dark.
Loved SATC though — I laughed, I cried, I want Charlotte’s Black and Pink Narcisco dress!

“…Under the bright glitzy glissando quartet of [SATC]the continuo was a shriek of pain from the women being shredded by the sexual revolution. In the end the show seems to have stayed true to the schizoid fantasy that powered the grinder….”–http://logomachon.blogspot.com/

Insert shriek: I loved the Buffy finale! It was only a cop out in the sense that Buffy would probably have been killed by the slicing open — but I’ve had enough of TPTB killing the Buffster off. Although I could do without Dawn (my alias notwithstanding) maybe they coulda killed her too and wood and xander (life without anya and his left eye?)
But other than those minor, quibbles… I still have episode saved on my TIVO…but there’s very few Buffy episodes that I don’t adore (most in seasons 4 and 6) The musical rocked though (also have that one tivo’d!)
