The Liberal Media my arse or Reason #719 that I despise Katie Couric

“Bottom line General, Is Iraq better off with Saddam Hussein in power or in a jail cell?”

In an interview with General Wesley Clark (D?) this morning.

Question assumes facts not in evidence. A la ‘when did you stop beating your wife?’

Weak argument, Dawn. Saddam was in power before we invaded and now he is in a jail cell. What’s not in evidence?

Wow, I thought K was kidding when she said she didn’t see anything wrong with the question, but now that others have challenged the premise, I guess I should give a better answer.

The question as posed in either or fashion indicates that one of those two things is the answer– (actually as phrased it suggests that only the latter is the right answer) but in reality their are many other factors that come in to play in any reasoned opinion on this war and saddam’s capture. for instance, a friend of mine was all pissed off that we didn’t just put a bullet in saddam’s head and be done with it — that opinion is not allowed in answering couric’s question… a journalist is supposed to ask open-ended who what where questions, not these loaded soundbaiting questions. And I thought it was unfair to Clark, but about what I expect from Couric. I am always surprised when people name her as part of this “liberal conspiracy.”

The media’s always looking for a story… I was looking for your link to the question “Who here thinks Howard dean can beat President Bush in the 2004 election”, couldn’t find it. I guess you’re picking your spots ???

The question is just plain dumb (to a Prez candidate). Of course the answer is jail cell, move on to a better question. Russert, Couric etc are masters of the softball questions, followed by …. no follow up.
