There may be some truth into this.
I think that underpriviledged kids (regardless of ethnic origin) are exposed to alcohol use and abuse before they reach college age. Wealthy kids are sheltered from substance abuse by their protective parents.
When a sheltered kid is released into the wild (college life), he/she goes… wild and is prone to selfdestructive behavoir. When an underpriviledged kid is released into the wild… well… he/she has always been on the wild - he/she may have already learned the lessons of alcohol abuse.
I am just generalizing of course.
